Mets linked to star infielder who may be open to position change

Before the 2023 season, the Mets reached deep into Steve Cohen’s pockets to add some of the biggest names in the league to their roster with intentions of a World Series run.
It didn’t work.

Instead, the Mets became sellers at the deadline and were anticipated to have a rebuilding year in 2024. That didn’t turn out exactly as expected, either.
After reaching the NLCS, Cohen and his front office could spend a good amount of money this offseason, looking to take it a step further next year and reach the World Series.
MLB insider Mike Ferrin said on MLB Network Radio this week that star Brewers shortstop Willy Adames could be a fit for the Mets, explaining that he could boost their middle infield as a second baseman.
But perhaps there’s another spot for the slugger. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Adames is “thought willing to consider third base, and Stearns has said Mark Vientos could play first base if the need arises.”
Adames, 29, spent his fourth season with Milwaukee this year on a one-year, $8.7 million contract. He hit .251/.331/.462 with 32 home runs and 112 RBI.
While working in the Brewers’ front office, Stearns acquired Adames in 2021 a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
